Save The Children! - from my nuts???
Well, I was sitting there eating some Planter's trail mix after working outside and I checked the back of the bag to see what unholy chemical additives might be sprayed all over my nuts. The peanut man wouldn't fess up to anything like that but did offer the following warning:
Quote:
My nuts, by the way, are a year past the expiration date. I had stashed them away in my emergency food box and just recently decided to check them out and see if they were still good since I'm refreshing the contents of that box. Despite their age my nuts aren't stale, in fact they're still crunchy with no diminished flavor. It must be due to the reduced oxygen packaging advertised on the back side of the nut sack. Well folks, this product is a tasty and nutritionally dense shelf stable food to store but please, keep your nuts away from children. If it saves just one life it's worth it. |

My daughter's class was designated a "peanut - free zone". Not only are peanuts not allowed. No peanut butter. No products that 'could' 'possibly' have been made with peanut extracts. It's unbelievable. Not only because it's most likely total BS, but because a single child's pushy-ass parents can stop 22 other families from sending their kid to school with a PBJ- although I'm not the biggest fan of the stuff , it is a quick and easy way to provide at least some protein and nutrition to kids. Overbearing , pathetic ,selfish , special-inerest, hypochondriac parenting at it's finest. Rant off. |
Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
ha... I had a peanut allergy before it was cool to have a peanut allergy. Sorry, but due to my affliction, I cannot partake of your nuts.

Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
I have had a SEVERE peanut allergy since early childhood, and I can tell you it is a real phenomena, not a put on for attention. As an example, at about age 7 my mother kissed me on the cheek before putting me to bed; I almost died because she had been eating peanuts. I hear you about the new peanut allergy fad, but some of us were allergic to nuts before nut allergies became cool.
P.S. I never felt threatened because some other kid in school had a PB and J sandwich. |
Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
I hadn't read the entire thread and really didn't mean to steal Phoenix's lines. I only saw that after. My bad, and I apologize.

Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
My wife gets these hellacious zits if she has peanuts. This developed only in the past few years. Damndest thing cause she used to love em. But me and the kids love peanuts. I started giving them to them at 2 yoa. 6, ha, by six they were cutting stuff in the kitchen for me with sharp knives. what a bunch of incompetent wussies amerikwans have become!

I think the school ban is all about litigation. We don't want any litigants with our name on the docket.

Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
No problem... As they say, "Great minds think".
I really do have this peanut thing though. I get big blotchy hives. It won't kill me, but it would require me to get an adrenaline shot if I ate them. Not to mention they taste like **it so I don't miss them. For me, the smell is repulsive. I always thought it was just a natural thing to hate what will kill you. Maybe tptb can find a way to work this into global warming. |

Heard that it wasn't the peanuts, but the peanut fungus that causes the problem. Starts with an a`````````? Anyway it is the stuff that causes that rotten peanut taste too. Hard to remove from the finished products.

Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
I never really thought about it, but I guess I'll have to keep my nuts hidden from view when the kids come over to visit. I'd feel like real scum if they wound up choking on them.

WARNING: Choking Hazard!
I just dug way down deep into my pantry. I've got nuts so old, stale and outdated, not even Barbara Bush would wanna nibble on em. |
Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
So if my nuts are out of date, is there a way to teste them?

Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
The Planter's nuts were rancid the day you bought them. They've either been roasted or fried in grease, both methods destroying the fatty acids. Cooked omega-6 fatty acids are poison to the body. You need unprocessed, uncooked fatty acids (3, 6, and 9s) to stay healthy, keep your cells oxygenated, and remain cancer free.
Again: Processed fats cause cancer and other aliments. Unprocessed fats prevent and cure cancer. Much, much unbiased research backs this up. |
Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
Interesting info, Conk. I can certainly see how this could apply to real nuts, but what about things like peanuts which are actually legumes? It is my understanding that grains, tubers and the like contain toxins that must be broken down through the application of heat.
I still eat quite a bit of starches, sugars, grains and such but I have a growing interest in following a paleolithic diet. |
Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
Nuts, legumes. Does not matter. It's the fat in them that is corrupted by heat. Unprocessed, uncooked is the only way to go. Of course in an emergency anything goes to stay alive. You'd then be concerned about starvation vs. long term health. :bear_thumb:

Re: Save The Children! - from my nuts???
Thanks for the info.
The ammount of bad things I eat is way lower than it used to be when I was completely health ignorant but it could still do with adjustment. I need to plant more fruits and berries to trick my sweet tooth with. |

You know, I saw one of those Discovery Channel documentaries on some primitive tribe in the South Seas that view the bannana as a phalic symbol. Because they saw it as a phalic symbol they decided that it was taboo for women and only men were allowed to eat it. Seems backwards to me. I prefer to stick to the melons.
